Air quality indicators

Air quality index values for zones monitored over the month of:

May 2024

The index corresponds to the average concentration of particle matter measured in micrograms / m3;

the lower the value, the better the air quality.

Environmental quality averaged over the period under review is good, with average values well below WHO standards. The small differences between Toulouse’s urban center and its suburbs testify to the favorable dispersion of particles generated in the city.

Detailed environment of the Toulouse region

  • Average PM 10 measurements (readings in micrograms / m3)

The average PM10 values recorded remained low during the month, both in central Toulouse and in the suburbs. Measurements on the main traffic arteries showed moderate levels, confirming that pollution levels were lower than during the first months of the year.

Measurements on Toulouse’s ring road, taken solely by official sensors, show a maximum value of 17 in May, compared with a peak value of 36 in January; this value is recorded at the busiest point on the ring road, near Rangueil.

Measurement points near the airport (Blagnac) also remain relatively limited.

Readings to the west of Toulouse show equivalent values to other parts of the Toulouse suburbs and the city itself.

The northern and eastern parts of Toulouse, where there are no sensors, cannot be properly assessed.

Special focus on Castanet-Tolosan

  • Average PM10 measurements
  • Average PM 2.5 measurements (readings in micrograms / m3)

The relatively homogeneous, low concentration reflects Toulouse’s good environment in terms of particulate emissions.
